A LETTER BEFORE WE BEGIN
Before we begin
I want to tell you something I don't tell in the other books in this collection. If you've already read The Confession Spell or The Money Spell, you know I don't usually talk much about myself. Here I'm going to make an exception, because this ritual was born from the worst stretch of my life, not the best.
I was twenty-three. In under a year I lost a job, a four-year relationship, and for a few months, even the will to leave the house. My grandmother, who read cards before me and better than me, told me a sentence that back then sounded like a scolding and today is the whole heart of this book: "Girl, you don't have bad luck. You have a covered light, and on top of that, you keep covering it yourself."
I didn't understand her in that moment. It took me years to fully understand it, and that path is exactly what you're about to walk through in the pages ahead.
Because here's what almost no one tells you about luck: it isn't a prize some people get and others don't. It's a light everyone is born with already lit, that gets covered over the years, layer by layer. Sometimes we cover it ourselves. Sometimes it's covered by people who don't even know they're doing it. And almost no one teaches you to tell one from the other.
This book is going to teach you exactly that. Not to attract luck out of nowhere, like some fairy-tale magic. To remove, layer by layer, what's been covering the luck that's already yours.
Read it whole before lighting anything. And keep this sentence for chapter IV, because you're going to need it there: the light isn't lit. It's uncovered.
With love,
Valeria
CHAPTER I
What good luck is (and what it isn't)
Before going on, we have to separate two things people confuse all the time, because if we don't, this book is going to disappoint you.
Good luck isn't life handing you things effortlessly. It isn't winning the lottery, or a stranger fixing your life in one stroke. If that's what you're looking for, this isn't your ritual, and I'm telling you this plainly because I'd rather you close the book now than close it disappointed in three weeks.
Good luck is this: that the things you're already moving, already trying, already working on, stop hitting an invisible wall every two steps. It's the difference between rowing against a current you can't see and simply rowing in calm water. The effort is still yours. What changes is that it stops feeling like something is always getting in the way.
A REAL STORY
Alba wrote to me describing herself as "jinxed," literally that word, three times in the same message. Her car would break down during important weeks, good plans would get cancelled on her, she'd be late exactly to what mattered most. When I looked at her cards I didn't see bad luck. I saw a woman who'd spent ten years repeating a story about herself until it became a prophecy. Luck hadn't abandoned her. It had simply gotten used to being blamed by her for everything that went wrong.
And here's the sentence I want you to underline, even just mentally:
This spell isn't going to give you a life without obstacles. It's going to remove the ones that were never yours to begin with.
There are obstacles that truly are yours: the ones meant for learning, growing, waiting. Those, I'm not asking any ritual to remove, and be wary of anyone who promises to remove all of them. But there are others that didn't belong there at all, that stuck to you along the way without you asking for them. This book is about those.
CHAPTER II
Why your shine dims without you noticing
No one decides to dim their own light on purpose. And yet, in eleven years reading cards, I've seen the same pattern repeat with different faces, over and over. Read these five calmly. By the end of the chapter you'll know which one is yours, and that completely changes how you do the ritual.
1. Envy you absorb without asking for it No one needs to wish you harm on purpose for their envy to affect you. Sometimes a repeated comment is enough, an uncomfortable look every time something goes well for you, a "you're so lucky" said with a bite. That energy sticks, thin layer over thin layer, until you start hiding your own joys by instinct.
2. Constant self-criticism Every time something goes well and you yourself minimize it ("it was luck, not skill," "it was probably just chance"), you're teaching your own light that it doesn't deserve to shine out loud. Over time, it stops trying.
3. Not making noise so as not to bother Many women learn as girls that being "too much" (too happy, too successful, too visible) makes others uncomfortable. And they learn to turn down the volume on their own luck before anyone even asks them to.
4. Turning a rough patch into an identity A couple of hard knocks in a row, and suddenly "I'm jinxed" goes from being a sentence to being who you think you are. The problem isn't the rough patch. It's what you decide it means about you.
5. Surrounding yourself with people who dim without meaning to Some people, with no bad intention, have the habit of downplaying everything good that happens to you. Living surrounded by that, day after day, dims more than any intentional evil eye.
Now think for a moment which of the five sounds most like you. You don't need to tell anyone. Just keep it in mind: the ritual works better when you know exactly which layer you're removing.
CHAPTER III
The three kinds of shadow
No one else is going to explain this to you either, and it's the foundation of everything that follows. Not every shadow covering your light is the same, and each one calls for a different work.
The shadow you built yourself
The one you yourself built with years of self-criticism and downplaying the good things that happen to you. It's recognized because, even when something goes well, your first inner reaction is to explain it away, justify it, or downplay it before enjoying it.
The inherited shadow
The one that comes from family, from whole generations repeating "things have never gone well for us" until it became true for everyone. You didn't choose it. You received it, the way you receive your eye color, with no one asking if you wanted it.
The absorbed shadow
This is the one popular tradition calls, plainly, the evil eye or envy. You don't need to believe in formulas or curses to recognize the effect: there are people whose energy, almost never even knowing it themselves, takes something from you every time they cross your path. You notice it because after being with certain people, even if the encounter seemed pleasant on the surface, you come away more tired, smaller, with less drive.
How to tell them apart in practice: your own shadow shows in how you talk to yourself. The inherited one shows in the sentences you repeat without realizing they're your mother's, or your grandmother's. The absorbed one shows in the body, not the mind: strange tiredness, headaches with no reason, after certain encounters. All three are worked with the same ritual. Only what you need to name while you do it changes.
CHAPTER IV
The mechanism: the Sun and what covers it
If you already know another book in this collection, this part is going to sound familiar in form and entirely new underneath. Every Valeria ritual has its own bridge. In The Confession Spell it was Mercury crossing toward Venus. In The Money Spell it was Jupiter crossing toward your own worth. Here the bridge is different, and in a way, older than the other two.
The body that governs luck
In the tradition of planetary correspondences, fortune, personal shine, everything that makes a person effortlessly "land well" in life, belongs to the Sun. He rules Sunday, rules gold and orange, rules vitality, recognition, luck in its purest form. When your Sun shines without obstruction, life treats you differently. Not by magic. Because people respond to light, even if they can't name it that way.
The problem is almost never that your Sun has gone out. The Sun doesn't go out. What happens is that it gets covered, layer over layer, with exactly what we saw in the previous chapter: self-criticism, inheritance, poorly digested outside energy.
What it takes to uncover it
This is where popular tradition and astrology shake hands, even if the serious books on one side are uncomfortable admitting the other exists. What astrology describes as "transits that darken the Sun" is, in the language of any knowledgeable grandmother, the evil eye, envy, a shadow that sticks. Different words for the same phenomenon: something external interfering with your natural light.
And what removes that interference isn't another planet shining harder. It's a much older element in any cleansing tradition: salt. Salt absorbs, cleanses, undoes what stuck without permission. That's why this ritual isn't just about lighting a gold candle and waiting. It's, above all, a cleansing ritual before it's an invocation.
The Sun doesn't get lit. It never went out. What goes dim is what covers it.
Salt cleanses what stuck without permission. Gold lets you see again what was already burning underneath.
This work doesn't create a new light. It removes what had kept it from coming out for years.
A REAL STORY
When I explained this to Alba, the woman who called herself "jinxed" three times in one message, the first thing she did wasn't light any candle. She wrote a list of the three people after whom she always felt more tired. She didn't even need to stop seeing them completely. Just naming the list, she said, already lifted a weight she'd carried for years without a name.
CHAPTER V
When to do it
There's an important difference from the other rituals in the collection here, so read it carefully even if you already know the system.
The day: Sunday
Sunday is the Sun's day. There's no argument in any tradition about this: it's the day of vitality, of recognition, of what shines without asking permission. Doing it any other day is like trying to watch the sunrise at midnight.
The moon: full, not waxing
Here the pattern you may already know changes. This isn't a ritual of "bringing in something new": it's a ritual of fully lighting up what's already there. And for that, the full moon is more powerful than the waxing one. It's the only point in the cycle where the light isn't still building: it's already complete, and all it needs is for nothing to cover it.
The ideal night or morning: the Sunday closest to the full moon, whether before or after, within a margin of three days. If they coincide exactly, even better: it happens once every few months, and when it does, I reserve that date for my own workings.
The hour: at sunrise, or as close to it as possible
This is the only ritual in the collection I'm going to ask you to do during the day, not at night. Ideally, between sunrise and ten in the morning. If your life doesn't allow it on a weekday, save it for a Sunday when you can.
If you truly can't wait
Any Sunday morning, in any moon phase, works as an exception. But only once. If you're going to commit to this ritual properly, wait for a Sunday with a full moon. The difference is noticeable, a lot.
CHAPTER VI
What you need
Fewer ingredients than usual, and simpler ones. This ritual is, above all, a cleansing, and cleansing rarely needs anything complicated.
1. A gold or yellow candle The Sun's color. If you can't find either, a white candle does the same job. Avoid bright orange for this one: it burns too fast and this ritual needs a flame that lasts.
2. Coarse salt Everyday kitchen salt. You don't need Himalayan pink salt or anything special to buy. Salt is salt, and its job has been the same for centuries.
3. A small mirror Any one you can hold in your hand. In popular tradition, the mirror returns what isn't yours to whoever sent it, without you having to wish anyone ill. It isn't revenge. It's a return.
4. A lemon Cut in half right before you start, not earlier. The lemon cuts through what's sticky, what clings without permission. It's one of the oldest ingredients in any traditional cleansing.
5. Paper and a gold or black pen You're going to write down the names or situations you believe have been covering your light.
6. Water, rain or mineral if possible If you can collect rainwater, even better. If not, any bottled mineral water works perfectly. No tap water for this specific work: you need something that hasn't passed through pipes carrying everything that runs through a city.
If you're missing the rainwater or the exact lemon, do it anyway with what you have. What you can't skip is the salt. That's the ingredient that truly does the work.
CHAPTER VII
Preparing the space
Here preparation matters more than in any other ritual in the collection, because you're about to cleanse, and you don't cleanse well in a dirty space.
STEP 1 — Open a window Even just for a moment, even if it's cold. New air coming in is part of the ritual, not a comfort detail.
STEP 2 — Sweep or vacuum first You don't need a deep clean of the whole house. Just the corner where you're going to work. It's symbolic and literal at the same time, like almost everything in this book.
STEP 3 — Wash your face with cold water Not your hands this time: your face. You're about to uncover your own light, and starting with the mirror of your own face makes sense.
STEP 4 — Set your materials facing a window or wherever natural light comes in The gold candle in the center, the mirror in front of it (reflective side facing outward, toward the door or window, never toward you), the salt in a small bowl on one side, the cut lemon on the other.
CHAPTER VIII
The ritual, step by step
Read it all before starting. This ritual has an order different from the rest of the collection: first you cleanse, then you light. Don't change it.
STEP 1 — Write what you believe has been covering you
On the paper, write the names or specific situations you feel have been taking away your shine. It can be a person. It can be a rough patch. It can simply be "myself, whenever I tell myself I don't deserve this."
STEP 2 — Cover the paper with salt
A generous layer, covering it entirely. As you do it, say out loud: "This isn't mine. It stays here." Salt doesn't destroy. It absorbs. It's doing its work even if you can't see it.
STEP 3 — Run the lemon over your hands and your face
Slowly, unhurried, as if you were truly peeling off something sticky. Don't worry if it stings a little on a small cut: that's just the lemon, nothing more.
STEP 4 — Light the gold candle
While lighting it, look at yourself in the mirror (the one you have ready) and say your own name out loud. You've just named the light you carry inside, the same one you had before anything started covering it.
STEP 5 — Hold the mirror toward the flame for a full minute
Let the candle's light reflect in it. A full minute, no less: count slowly if you need to. You're teaching the mirror what your real light is, so it knows what to return and what to let pass through.
STEP 6 — Read the invocation on the next page
Out loud, with the mirror in one hand, facing the candle.
STEP 7 — Close
Let the candle burn as long as you can leave it. Wrap the salted paper (without opening it) in a piece of foil or a sealed bag. Don't throw it out yet: that's explained in chapter X.
CHAPTER IX
The exact words
Read them out loud, slowly, in Step 6, with the mirror in your hand.
I am the light. I've always been. What covered me was never stronger than I am. It had just been there longer.
I return what isn't mine, without wishing harm on whoever left it with me.
I cleanse what was inherited and never chosen, and what I myself covered without realizing.
Let what always burned be seen again. Let it be seen, and this time, let me be the one who doesn't hide it.
It is said.
Why these words and no others
Notice something you may already recognize if you've come from another book in this collection: here too, there's no wish of harm for anyone. "Without wishing harm on whoever left it with me" isn't filler or politeness. It's the difference between a cleansing and a revenge, and that difference is what keeps the work coming back clean, with nothing new stuck to it.
CHAPTER X
The seal: the mirror and the salt
What you do in the next few hours decides whether this lasts one morning or lasts months.
The salt with the paper
Throw it out away from home, ideally onto earth, not down the drain. If you live in an apartment with no garden nearby, a large planter out on the street works. What matters is that it leaves your space, not that it goes back into your own home's pipes.
The mirror
This is no longer just any mirror. Keep it somewhere special, not back in your everyday makeup bag. Many women in this collection carry it in their bag for a while, wrapped in a cloth, like a small silent guardian.
The lemon
Throw it out too, away from home. Never eat it or use it for cooking after a cleansing ritual: it's already done its job, and its job wasn't to nourish you.
CHAPTER XI
The following three mornings
Unlike other works in this collection, here we don't work the following nights. We work the mornings, because the Sun relates to the start of the day, not its end.
STEP 1 — Morning one The moment you wake, before checking your phone, look at yourself for a second in the mirror (the one from the ritual) and say: "Today I don't cover myself."
STEP 2 — Morning two Repeat the gesture. And notice, during the day, if you catch yourself downplaying something good that happens to you. If it happens, don't scold yourself. Just observe it.
STEP 3 — Morning three Repeat the gesture one last time. From here on, let the count go and continue with your life.
During these three mornings, deliberately avoid the person or situation you wrote on the ritual paper, if you can. Not forever. Just these three days, while the cleansing is still settling in.
CHAPTER XII
The signs that it's working
Luck, when it returns, gives warning in very specific ways. These are the ones I see most, almost always in this order:
1. You sleep differently A lot of women tell me that, right after this ritual, they sleep better than they remember sleeping in months. It makes sense: part of what was covering you was also weighing you down inside.
2. Someone gives you a compliment and you accept it without more With no usual deflection ("oh, come on," "it was probably just luck"). The day you accept a compliment in silence, without brushing it off with an excuse, something real has shifted.
3. Small things start going well The green light, the free table at the busy place, the parking spot right out front. It sounds minor. It's literally how the Sun announces itself before the big things.
4. You cross paths less with whoever was dimming you Sometimes with no logical explanation at all: they change shifts, they move, you simply run into each other less. Life rearranges the distances on its own once you stop needing to keep close whoever was covering you.
5. You feel like being seen Posting that photo, sharing that good news without downplaying it before anyone even asks. It's one of the most reliable signs: your light wants to be seen again, not just felt inside.
A REAL STORY
Ten days after her ritual, Alba wrote me something I still keep. "Nothing big has happened, Valeria. But today I broke a cup and didn't think for a single second that it was because I'm jinxed. I just thought a cup had fallen." Sometimes the biggest sign that luck is back is how small, suddenly, everything bad becomes.
The timeline: this usually shows up between day 3 and day 21, with small things arriving first and bigger ones after. If by day 21 you feel nothing has changed, it almost always means the shadow covering your light was more than this book alone can name, and that's exactly where a personalized reading comes in.
CHAPTER XIII
What blocks the ritual
Four things this time, not five. This ritual is simpler than the others, and also easier to spoil if you don't keep these in mind.
1. Doing it out of resentment toward someone specific This work cleanses. It doesn't punish. If you do it thinking "I hope things go badly for so-and-so," you're mixing two energies that don't go well together, and the result stays half-done.
2. Still telling the story that you're jinxed If the next day you keep telling everyone "I just have no luck with these things," you're covering back up with your mouth what you just uncovered with your hands.
3. Not giving the mirror a place of honor Tossing it back into your makeup bag with everything else, with no special care, takes power away from the symbol. You don't need an altar. You need a bit of intention.
4. Repeating it every Sunday, just in case Once per full moon cycle is more than enough. Repeating it with no need tells your own light you don't trust that the work was already done.
CHAPTER XIV
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I truly have an evil eye or stuck envy, and it's not just my own self-criticism? In practice you don't need to know for certain for the ritual to work: it works on both at once. If you notice you get very tired after being with someone specific, that's the most reliable clue you have.
Can I do this ritual for someone else, like my daughter or my mother? Yes, swapping the name you say in front of the mirror for theirs. But ask their permission first, even if only in your mind: this work deeply respects each person's will over their own light.
What if I don't have a Sunday with a full moon coming up and I need to do it now? Do the exception from chapter V. Any Sunday, and repeat it properly on the next full-moon Sunday you have available.
Does it work for luck in love, not just in general? It works for any area where you feel things keep going wrong for no clear reason. If what you have is a very specific communication block with someone, The Confession Spell may serve you better. This one is for when the problem isn't one person: it's that everything, in general, keeps going a little sideways.
Can I combine it with another ritual in the collection? Yes, and in fact many women start right here, with luck, before working on something more specific like money or a pending confession. It makes sense: first the light gets uncovered, then you point it wherever it's needed.
CHAPTER XV
When luck returns
I want to warn you about something almost no one expects, and that surprised me too the first time I lived it myself.
When your light truly starts to uncover, not everyone around you is going to celebrate it with you. Some people had gotten used to the dimmed version of you, and without realizing it, they're going to try to pull you back there. A comment, a joke that no longer lands, a "don't get too full of yourself."
Don't dim yourself to make room for them. Three things for when this happens:
1. Don't apologize for shining You don't owe anyone an explanation for things starting to go well.
2. Choose who you celebrate with Not everyone needs to be the first to hear your good news. Choose whoever truly celebrates for you.
3. Leave room for others to shine too Your light doesn't take light away from anyone. Whoever feels that way, that's their work, not yours.
Valeria, I'm embarrassed to say this, but things are going so well for me that I don't know how to act. That sentence reaches me more than you'd imagine after this specific ritual. And my answer is always the same: you don't need to learn how to act. You need to stop hiding.
CHAPTER XVI
What this book cannot give you
I'm going to close this book the way I close every book in this collection: being honest with you to the very end.
This ritual uncovers your light. Any woman who reads it calmly can do that, without needing me for anything else. But there's something no book, however well written, can know about you: exactly which shadow is yours right now. Whether it's someone else's envy, a family inheritance across generations, or yourself, without even realizing it.
And here's something else I want you to know, because it's part of why I write these books the way I write them: luck, money, and love are almost never the real problem. They're where that problem shows up first. A woman who doesn't believe she deserves luck also tends not to believe she deserves a good salary, or a sincere confession. The blocks travel together, even if they wear different disguises.
That's why this collection exists as a whole, not as a single stand-alone book. If you finish this one and feel that the shadow covering your luck is the same one that's been covering other things in your life, you don't need to figure it out alone. That's exactly what a reading made for you exists for, and the rest of these books too.
Thank you for letting me into your Sunday morning. Of all the books I've written, this is the one that most resembles me.
ONE LAST WORD FROM VALERIA
What comes next
If you've made it this far, you already know how to uncover your own light.
What this book can't tell you is what's covering it right now, specifically, in your life. Because that isn't general: it's yours. I can teach you the method. I can't know from here who or what is covering it without looking at your cards.
That's why, when a woman finishes this ritual, I always tell her the same thing: you need to look at exactly which shadow is yours, and a book written for thousands of women can no longer see that. Which shadow is yours, where it comes from, and which part of your light has been waiting longest to come out.
I see that in a personalized reading. Yours, about your situation, not a general reading for a thousand women at once. It reaches your inbox in under twenty-four hours.
I wasn't missing luck. I was missing the courage to stop hiding the luck I already had.
I hope your light is seen soon. And I hope, once it is, you never cover it again yourself.
With all my love,
Valeria
