It all started in my grandmother's kitchen 

As a little girl I was very sensitive. I could tell when my mother was sad even when she smiled, or when a friend wasn't okay even when she said she was. Sometimes I felt strange, as if I saw things no one else could see.

The only place where it all made sense was my grandmother Remedios's kitchen. It smelled of coffee and oranges, and there was always a worn deck of cards on the table. She had a huge personality, she was one of a kind, and she was the first person who told me that what I felt wasn't strange: it was a gift.

I was 6 years old and could spend whole afternoons by her side, watching her. What caught my attention most wasn't the cards, but the women who walked through that door: they arrived with tired eyes, full of doubts… and left breathing differently.

One day I asked her: "Grandma, how do you know what to tell them?" She took my hand and gave me an answer I have never forgotten:
